Grey

*** This poem was written by a friend of mine who gave me permission to post it.  I am sure that those who read it, at some point in their lives, have perhaps felt some of the same things.  Thanks Trusty Sidekick. ***

I’m not depressed, I’m disappointed,
I’m not bored, I’m underwhelmed,
The ship of life has sailed without me,
I am not there at the helm.

I’m not plain, but I’m not pretty,
I’m not old, but youth has passed,
And life doesn’t hand out ribbons
To the one who’s always last.

I’m not in pain, but I am hurting,
I’m not blind, but I don’t see,
And the world is full of wonder,
But it isn’t meant for me.

I do not want, nor am I wanted,
I exist, but do not live,
And the world wants something from me,
But I have nothing left to give.

I’m not sad, but I’m not happy,
I’m not scared, but I’m not safe,
And it’s not that I don’t love you,
But I wish you’d go away.

I’m alone, but I’m not lonely,
I’m not right, but I’m not wrong,
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger,
But I’m tired of being strong.

And so I seek the answers,
Do I quit, or do I fight?
Do I give into the darkness,
Or do I step into the light?
